Libertad de Expresión en Sri Lanka: Una aproximación basada en derechos humanos

This video presents a human rights-based approach to the exercise of the right to freedom of expression in Sri Lanka. It considers two examples of the use of social media for the dissemination of religious speech that fostered the conflict between Sinhalese and Muslims in February 2018 and April 2019, and how media influenced the escalation of the conflict in the mentioned period.
Biografía del autor
Nuwan Karunarathne is an officer of Sri Lanka Army who presently on study leave to pursue his higher studies. Currently, he is enrolled in the Asian Peace Builders Scholarship where he will earn two masters’ degrees at the end of December 2020. He already completed one master’s degree at University for Peace in Costa Rica in Media and Peace. At the moment he is reading for the other masters’ degree which is Master of Political Science in Global Politics at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. Nuwan Karunarathne graduated from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in Sri Lanka and earned a bachelors’ degree in Management and Technical Sciences. He also possessed an MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies from the same university and an MSc in Art and Science of Warfare from the National Defence University in Pakistan.
