Diablo Blanco
When you think of the devil, do you think of hell?
Forget the angel she was before she fell,
Before they took her halo, and painted horns in its place,
To let the world know the face of disgrace.
When we see her coming, we run and hide,
Bury her deep within our mind.
So, no one will know we have the devil inside;
Dutifully living our life as a lie,
Suffocating slowly in an angel’s disguise.
What would life look like if we let her out to play?
Gave her a chance, heard what she had to say.
Let her whisper sweet nothings into our ear,
Convince us to live a life without fear.
What if we set the red devil free,
Gave her a chance to reclaim her blue wings,
Let her show us the world through her brown eyes,
Convince us that nothing in life’s black and white;
See life in color for the very first time.
Who gets to decide what’s wrong or right?
What would she look like if the world hadn’t painted her red?
Gave her a chance to grow flowers from the thorns on her head?
Let her dance to her own rhythm, go with the flow,
How would you repaint el diablo blanco?
Del Mar
I watch her waves taunting, teasing,
Calling “come on in”, I know she’ll win.
But I don’t care, I take the dare.
Let her currents pull me under,
Tumble through her womb of wonder,
I can breathe at last, where I thought I’d drown,
Living in the here and now;
my sky has turned upside down.
She pulls me deeper in to her blues,
Showing me the world anew;
That tides can be strong, but gentle too.
As I start to catch her flow,
Her salted tears tell me time to go.
I can’t go back after just one taste,
I want to stay cradled in her warm embrace,
Not ready for the dank air to slap me awake.
She sends me crashing back to shore.
I watch her wave goodbye, but I want more.
